5 UK beaches you need to visit this summer

The weather forecast might be a tad unpredictable, but that shouldn't stop you from making the most of the long summer days. The UK boasts a spectacular coastline, offering everything from hidden coves to dramatic cliffs and wide-open sands.

Below, we’ll share some of the country's finest beaches.

Holkham Beach, Norfolk
This five-mile stretch of yellow sand is backed by dunes and pinewoods, feeling wonderfully wild and unspoilt. It's ideal for walkers and nature lovers, with endless space to roam and the chance to see an array of wildlife, including seals basking on the shore.

The beach is dog-friendly year-round, so it's the perfect spot for a family day out with your furry companion. After a bracing walk, head to the nearby village of Holkham for a quintessential pub lunch or some afternoon tea at the grand Holkham Hall.

Chesil Beach, Dorset
This geological wonder spans an impressive 18 miles along the Jurassic Coast, making it the longest shingle beach in the world. The smooth, polished pebbles create a fascinating and ever-changing landscape, with the backdrop of the Isle of Portland adding a cinematic touch.

With the East Fleet Farm Touring Park close by, Chesil Beach is perfect if you’re looking to take a holiday in your motorhome by the coast. Just be sure to take out comprehensive motorhome insurance before setting off, so you can enjoy peace of mind during your trip.

Woolacombe Beach, Devon
This three-mile stretch of golden sands is a firm favourite for catching waves, offering fantastic swells for experienced surfers, as well as while gentle coves at either end provide safe paddling for families.

Woolacombe Bay is part of the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), home to stunning coastal walks offering breathtaking views. Meanwhile, the lively village of Woolacombe offers a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants for you to peruse.

Rhossili Bay, Gower Peninsula, Wales
Often named as one of the best beaches in the UK, Rhossili Bay boasts three miles of gorgeous sand backed by imposing cliffs. With plenty of space for sandcastle building and rock pooling, it’s the perfect place for families to relax and play. The famous Worm's Head, a tidal island accessible by foot at low tide, adds a touch of magic to the scenery.

Beyond the beach, you can explore the charming village of Rhossili with its traditional thatched cottages and pubs serving local ales. Alternatively, take a scenic walk along the Gower Coastal Path to admire the views of the coastline.

Camber Sands, East Sussex
This vast expanse of picturesque sand dunes feels almost endless, giving visitors a taste of the Mediterranean right here in the UK. It’s a popular location with kitesurfers and windsurfers, with lessons even available for those who want to give it a go.

There are plenty of places to visit nearby if you want to extend your trip, including the delightful village of Rye, a maze of cobbled streets and historic buildings, as well as the nearby town of Hastings with its famous pier and 11th-century Hastings Castle. If you’d prefer a dose of wildlife, head to Dungeness National Nature Reserve – a unique habitat known for its shingle beaches and diverse birdlife.

With a variety of landscapes and activities on offer, there's a perfect beach day waiting for everyone on the UK’s beautiful coast. Just remember to check the tide times and, most importantly, embrace the unpredictable summer weather – after all, it's all part of the British charm!
