Mothers Day is fast approaching and my mum, like everyone, loves flowers. Every mothers day, from myself an the mister, she is sent a bunch of flowers, something she always knows is coming, because like her, I am a creature of habit and something I enjoy sending, more so because she lives over 200 miles away and I get to see her about once a year.

Mothers Day with Partylite

With Mothers Day fast approaching, I have a series of posts aimed at spoiling your Mum, Mother-in-law, Grandma and any other female who you want to spoil.  

PartyLite are an online store which specialises in home fragrance and decor and they have a really large selection of products to choose from and I was kindly sent a package containing products which would make a lovely mothers day gift.

The first things which stood out to me once I opened the boxes was the two butterfly porcelain tealight holders which are just so pretty. 

The pots are painted on the inside to reflect the light of a tealight when it is inside and together as a pair they are just absolutely pretty and something my mum would just love.

To go with the porcelain pots, these wild lemongrass scented tealight candles are perfect. 

As soon as the box is opened, the scent of the lemongrass is more than noticeable and as a scent it is quite strong and potent, even coming from something as small as a tealight, but it is a scent I like and one, which when lit, fills the house quite quickly.

The White Flower Holder, which is not for holding a flower, but is instead used for holding SmartScents by PartyLite™ Decorative Fragrance Sticks and as something decrative to have on a shelf, I think the flower holder is quite lovely and a nice change to a tealight holder. 

The SmartScents by PartyLite™ Decorative Fragrance Sticks I have in Peony scent and they too pack a powerful punch when on display. I have them in my hallway on top of a cabinet and I can catch a whiff of the scent in my lounge or in the bedroom. With these fragrance sticks there is no liquid oil and obviously no flame, instead what you have are five rolled paper fragrance sticks which are designed to deliver the scent of Peony for up to 30 days.

The final item is the Glolite Party Candle which has the moniker "The World's Brightest Candle' emblazoned on the front of the box and this is because once it is alight, the textured wax is said to radiate a soft, all-over glow. I have scent Berry Blossom which is said to be the juicy, mouthwatering scent of sweet, sun-ripened berries touched with a trace of jasmine and when it is out of the box, it smells just heavenly and it has an impressive burn time of 50-60 hours.

Almond Delicious Soap is not just any bar of soap, it is more a pampering session for the hands and can be used on knees, elbows, feet and body if you so wish. Using ground almond shells to gently scrub away dead skin cells, it leaves your hands clean and rough areas smooth. Delicious Hands Hand cream really leaves your hands feeling soft, smooth and nourished and finally Almond Milk Concentrate which not only leaves your skin feeling nourishing, soft and smooth it also leaves the skin looking firmer and re-densified thanks to the action of almond proteins and a silicium derivative.  Priced at £42.

If hand cream is something your Mum would like, then the Must-Have Hand Trio is the gift you need to purchase.  Beautifully presented in a L'Occitane Signature Box, inside are three amazing handcreams - Shea Butter Hand Cream, Cherry Blossom Hand Cream and Almond Delicious Hands.  All three of these hand creams have a rich texture which is rapidly absorbed to leave the hands soft and smooth with no oily traces. Make this gift even more perfect by adding the One Minute Hand Scrub, which I adore and you have a beautiful hand pamper hamper. This gift set is priced at £22.

I know my mum likes fragrances and I too am a huge perfume fan, so the 

Néroli & Orchidée Gift Set is perfect.  This collection contains a 75ml Néroli & Orchidée Eau de Toilette, a 250ml Néroli & Orchidée Shower Gel and a 50ml Néroli & Orchidée Body Milk.  The scent combines the zesty notes of orange and mandarin, Néroli with Orchidée make this perfect for those who like a mixture of their florals and zesty fragrances.  On a first spritz it is incredibly zesty with the Mandarin, Orange and Neroli before settling on the skin to allow the floral notes of white orchids to come through.  A beautiful light scent for the Spring and Summer and a gift set retailing at just £42.

The final set is one of my favourites again and it is the Relaxing Lavender Collection. With five products included, this is one beautiful set. Starting with a 500ml bottle of Lavender Foaming Bath, this bottle is perfect for adding to the bath to forget about the stresses and strain of the week and it creates lots of bubbles. If you don't have the time for a bath, then the inclusion of a 250ml bottle of Lavender Shower Gel and Lavender Bonne Mere Soap are great for cleasning the skin and relaxing with the scent as it hits the steam of your shower. Then once out of the bath or shower there is a 75ml bottle of Lavender Body Lotion and Hand Cream to leave the skin feeling soft, nourished, moistured and incredibly hydrated. Mother's Day with Charles Farris and Rathbornes

With Mothers Day on the horizon and gifts still to be bought, today I am bringing to you, two amazing candle brands which would make an amazing gift.  I am a huge candle fan and think the gift of a candle can be just as special and thoughtful as a bouquet of flowers.

Charles Farris is a brand which is steeped in a heritage that dates back to 1845, Charles Farris scented candles still use the same traditional methods from the Victorian era to make the best candles for modern day – slow-burning, long lasting and of the highest quality. The story goes back to 1845, when Charles Farris created a brand that supplied pillar candles to some of Britain’s most important buildings including Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral. 

Using 170 years of experience, Charles Farris has now created a range of seven premium scented candles and reed diffusers, specifically for use at home. Working with master blenders to create unique and beautiful scents, the candles have been crafted using traditional techniques, the highest quality ingredients and are encased in artesian hand-finished glass.  The seven unique fragrance blends, inspired by London’s rich history, include ingredients such as British honey, hedgerow blackberries and oak wood fused with more exotic notes such as tobacco, ylang and mint.

I have two candles which are both very different in scent, but both equally divine. 

• I. Grand Cascade: This scent evokes the sophistication of a gentlemen’s club: A deep, smoky aroma of cedar aged leather and birch which is offset by fresh moss and amber.  As soon as the box is open, the woody scent is immediatly noticeable and it is just a wonderful scent.  RRP £30
• II. Sweet Elixir: A bouquet of heady florals that have been infused with sweet honey and blended with fruity notes of cherry and citrus, which give this scent a warm and enveloping feel. Again, this is a strong scent candle and one for those who love citrus scents. RRP £30

Then we have Rathbornes, who are officially the oldest candle brand in the world. Did you know that Rathbornes have been producing candles since 1488? This is before Columbus discovered America! With over 500 years experience, Rathbornes, which was founded in Dublin, hand pour wax candles which are infused with the highest quality natural essential oils, tested to ensure optimum scent distribution and the highest quality burn time. Rathbornes candles are woven into the social fabric of Ireland and have been providing steadfast light for the homes, streets and lighthouses of the world.

• Bitter Orange, Birch Tar & Balsam - Envisage a bowl of oranges close by a crackling fire and you will imagine the scent of this warm and earthy citrus candle. Rich and inviting, it infuses citrus top notes with an amber heart and smoky base of birch, fir balsam and oak wood. As a scent it is wonderfully relaxing and perfect for a Sunday afternoon of curling up with a good book and forgetting it is Monday tomorrow. RRP £30

Mother's Day Gift Guide

With Mother's Day on the horizon in just a weeks time, shops have been filled with cards and chocolates as well as balloons and candles in an attempt to get you to send your Mum/Mam/Mummy/Mother/Ma-Ma or however you might address her, a little something to celebrate the day.  If you haven't thought that far ahead because the news is full of other stories and you've been slightly distracted, I have a little gift guide that might just save the day!

I know not every Mam is the same, some are much older, some are younger, some are fitter and some not so, but I am hoping to have covered absolutely every angle with this gift guide.

For those who want to have a good nights sleep is the Sleep Master Eye Mask. It came into being after extensive research, the inventor of Sleep Master, who is also an insomnia sufferer, couldn't find a sleep mask that combined the conditions necessary for deep sleep: light elimination and sound reduction. Traditional sleep masks didn't fit or last. One of my favourite skincare brands Emma Hardie has collaborated with the charity Look Good Feel Better and has launched a limited edition Pink Moringa Cleansing Balm.

At 50ml and priced at £25 from Marks & Spencer*, from every sale of the limited edition Moringa Cleansing Balm, Emma Hardie Skincare will be donating a percentage of proceeds from the sales to Look Good Feel Better, their goal is to raise £100k for the charity during the year of 2020.

For someone who is always on the go we have the Ember Travel Mug², an absolute revelation in re-usable cups which keep those hot drinks hot!  Everyone is trying to do their bit for the environment, using less take-away cups and more re-usable has been a huge change for me, but I find that those claims of keeping drinks hot for around 6 hours are not always that true.  Then I tried this!

There is no doubting every Mum needs at least an hour to herself and from Marks & Spencer, who right now have some amazing bathing products in store. My latest find has been these Rose Bath Salts.

These rose-scented bath salts are described as being perfection for the ultimate relaxation experience and they are infused with notes of pink peony and lily and when they come into contact with warm water, that floral fragrances comes to life and smells as wonderful as a freshly opened bunch of flowers and they cost me just £4.99.

I really like Shea Moisture as a brand and I have the Fruit Fusion Energizing Bath, Body & Massage Oil and there is something about the sharp fragrance of this oil that I absolutely love. Shea Moisture describe this oil as being one which helps to restore hydration as well as to revitalize dry, dull skin.

As well as the use of Shea Butter and Coconut Oil which replenishes moisture deep below the skin surface, there is the use of Imbe Oil which helps to protect against the damaging and ageing effects of external aggressors to leave skin feeling nourished. Then the fruity fragrance of both Green Apple and Lychee Berry are said to help stimulate the senses and for me, this is my favourite of the two products.

A brand I see a lot on my social media is Embryolisse and for Mother's Day I am including the Limited Edition London Lait-Crème Concentré.  In its Limited Edition packaging, this iconic French skincare brand is quite the cult product.  

As a multi-tasking cream, it works not only as a three-in-one moisturising lotion, but can also be used as a primer and as a make-up remover.  It has a lightweight but rich texture, this cream contains essential fatty acids and vitamins which help to reduce irritation especially after shaving and they also plump the skin for firmer results.  The inclusion of nutrients and water to balance the skin and promote cell renewal also lead to much more supple-looking skin too. You can find Embryolisse in Boots stores, and online via Cult Beauty, Feelunique and Lookfantastic where it is priced at £17.99. 

If you Mam is quite partial to a brew, which mine most certainly is, the gift of tea is definitely a worthy gift.  The Tea Makers of London work closely with the most celebrated tea gardens in the world as well as independent artisan tea farmers who continue to use traditional methods, which have been lovingly preserved and passed down to them by their ancestors over many centuries.

So the inclusion of a gift of tea is one which would always be welcome, whether that is a selection of fine loose leaf tea or a tea set, it is definitely something a little bit different and much about.

As a brand, Rubis isn't one I have come across until recently, but their Nail Scissors are definitely something my mum would have in her knitting box.  With their slightly curved, hand-sharpened blades which are crafted out of hardened martensitic steel, these scissors are designed to cut your nails to perfection. 

I am sure we have all had a pair of nail scissors which are as blunt as blunt can be and instead of trimming your nails, they hack at them.  Rubis scissors have ergonomically shaped handle grips which are said to offer supreme comfort and stability. When it comes to haircare, I am always aware that as you get older, your hair changes. I am lucky enough to have a lot of hair and it has yet to show signs of thinning, but friends of mine are not so lucky, so this is where Nanogen Haircare comes in.

The Ramer Cleansing Shammy for Sensitive Skin is a little gem of a product and are a great alternative to using wet wipes, which we all know we shouldn't be using anyway.

We all know the importance of skincare and removing makeup, so these handy little shammy sponges work to remove all traces of make-up. The shammy can also be used with skincare such as cleansers and too and I love how soft they feel on the skin.  All Ramer sponges are made from a magic material, all Ramer Sponges harden as they dry, helping to prevent the growth of bacteria, and will instantly soften when soaked in warm water, ready to re-use again.
