Nourishing Your Scalp: The Foundation of Hair Health

Nourishing Your Scalp: The Foundation of Hair Health

Strong, shiny, and healthy hair – isn't that what we all desire? But have you ever stopped to consider where it all starts? It's not the mid-lengths or the ends of your hair; it's right at the roots, in the very soil where your hair grows - your scalp. So, let's dive into understanding the importance of nourishing your scalp and establishing the foundation for impeccable hair health.

Know Your Scalp

Just like your hair, your scalp is unique and has specific needs. It might be dry, oily, sensitive, or balanced. Identifying your scalp type is the first step towards ensuring it gets the proper care it deserves. Once you understand your scalp's needs, you can select suitable products or DIY treatments. For instance, online platforms like Oz Hair and Beauty offer a wide range of scalp care products tailored to suit various needs.

Feeding Your Scalp Right

Nourishing your scalp is much like nourishing your body - it requires the right kind of nutrients to stay healthy. Here's a breakdown of some essential scalp-nourishing ingredients and where you can find them:

  1. B Vitamins: These play a crucial role in cell production, which includes the cells that make up your hair follicles. Good sources are whole grains, meat, and dairy products.

  2. Vitamin D: Studies show that vitamin D can help create new hair follicles. You can get it from fatty fish, fortified dairy products, and of course, sunshine!

  3. Protein: Your hair is almost entirely made up of protein. A protein-rich diet will, therefore, contribute to healthy hair growth. Think eggs, lean meats, and legumes.

  4. Zinc: Zinc plays a vital role in hair tissue growth and repair. You can find it in oysters, beef, spinach, and pumpkin seeds.

Remember, a well-balanced diet will go a long way in keeping your scalp and hair healthy.

The Importance of Hydration

Just like your skin, your scalp can get dehydrated too. Dehydration can lead to dryness, itching, and flaking. Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day, and consider using hydrating serums or oils specifically designed for scalp care.

Regular Cleansing and Exfoliation

Just as you wash your face and exfoliate it to remove dead skin cells, the same goes for your scalp. Regular cleansing will keep your scalp free from product build-up and excess oils that can clog hair follicles, leading to various scalp issues. On the other hand, exfoliating your scalp once a week can help get rid of dead skin cells and stimulate blood flow to your hair follicles.

Massage: A Secret Weapon

Scalp massage is often an overlooked part of hair care routines. Regular massage can help increase blood flow to your hair follicles, bringing more nutrients to your scalp and promoting healthier hair growth. Plus, it's a great way to relieve stress – a win-win!

Wrapping Up

To sum up, your scalp is the fertile ground from which your hair grows. Its health directly influences the health and appearance of your hair. So start by understanding your scalp type and its needs. Nourish it with the right nutrients, keep it hydrated, cleanse and exfoliate regularly, and don't forget to give it a good massage from time to time. Don't underestimate the power of good quality products tailored to scalp health, like those available online. Your scalp is the foundation of your hair health, and a little care can go a long way in ensuring you have the luscious locks you've always dreamed of. Happy scalp care!

Monpure Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask

Monpure is a haircare brand that I have really been enjoying using, having previously shared the Clarifying Scalp Scrum and the Hydrate and Soothe Serum, today is the turn of the Monpure Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask.
Monpure Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask
Monpure as a brand, is one of the few who has put a lot of thought into their hair care brand, with particular attention being paid to the scalp.  For me, scalp care is as importance as skincare and over the past few years, I have been on quite a journey to get to know why my scalp flares up and kicks off in the way that does.  Stress is the ultimate factor though living in a hard water area and some of the products I had assumed worked for my hair, did, but they didn't for my scalp and quickly a problem would arise with an itch, followed by more itching and then within days a sore scalp that was really unhappy.
If your scalp is feeling particularly under the weather, our Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask is the ultimate scalp care SOS weekly treatment that should be adorning every bathroom shelf. Simply massage this fluffy cloud-light formula through your roots, onto your scalp and any stress and discomfort should be a thing of the past (you should start to feel it tingle – that’s the best bit).
So alongside the scrub and the serum, I have been using the Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask and its job is to work to improve scalp health by ‘feeding’ hair follicles and skin cells with essential vitamins and nutrients, by doing so, it creates the optimum environment for hair growth. As you can see, with this product, not only does it work to improve scalp health so hair can grow stronger, better and healthier with regular use, but more important for me, it also soothes, hydrates and relieves sun damage with aloe vera and vitamin-rich camellia tea oil.
Monpure Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask
Monpure Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask
There is two ways of using this mask, depending on what you feel both your hair and scalp need. Firstly there is the option to use it as a deep treatment which means the mask needs to be left on the scalp for 15 minutes at least, so ideal for application before you venture into the shower to rinse it out.  Or, you can use it whilst in the shower, after shampooing and then massage the mask into the scalp and let it work for 10 minutes before washing it out.  I have tried both options but prefer to get as much time usage out of this mask as possible and will often apply it after shampooing but then having got out of the shower and completed the rest of my routine, will then rinse it out, ensuring I get the full 15 minutes of use.

Ingredients within this mask are chosen for specific reasons and what I love is that it is cruelty-free and vegan but there is also no silicone used - for me, some hair care with silicone irritate my scalp.
  • Aloe Vera - Used for its soothing properties on the skin, it is packed full of polysaccharides which are are known for their hydrating and anti-inflammatory powers and within this mask, it is perfect for helping to calm and soothe issues such as irritation, itching and dryness.
  • Camellia Tea Oil - Rich in antioxidants and vitamins, as well as those essential fatty acids, it delivers an intense hit of nourishment to neglected scalps and works to stimulate hair follicles and enhance healthy hair growth, while leaving it conditioned.
  • Silk Peptides - Silkgel is described as being a pioneering new vegan alternative to regular silk peptides, providing a “second skin” effect to the scalp and hair follicles. Produced via a process of fermenting plant starch, it’s been clinically proven to not only repair fragile or damaged hair strands, but will also protect the hair and scalp from harmful pollutants as well as bacterial adhesion.
So, I have been using this mask as directed for over 3 months now at least once, sometimes twice a week and can say that irritation has been reduced as well as the itching and whenever I do begin to itch, I now reach for this mask, not just for the tingle, which is delightful and soothing, but because I feel it does calm irritation.

The Monpure Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask is priced at £53 and is just wonderful to use, it works and ticks every box for me and I have since purchased a back-up tub!

ECooking Hair Care Collection

I absolutely adore the brand Ecooking and have loved getting to know the brand ever since I was first introduced to it back in 2018. Since that time, the brand has evolved and the range of products has got better and better. Today I am sharing two products from the hair care range!
ECooking Hair Care Collection
Having tried both the Multi Shampoo and Hair Mask for a good few months now, both products are amazing to use and if you need some new hair care, this is as good a place to start as any.

Ecooking’s new Multi Shampoo (£19) has both a cooling and soothing effect on the skin and it is therefore especially good for a dry and sensitive scalp, something that plagued me for months during lockdown and this shampoo couldn’t have arrived at a better time.
ECooking Hair Care Collection
Packaged in an ice blue coloured tube, this Multi Shampoo contains a whole host of incredible ingredients which includes peptides and amino acids among other ingredients, their job is to not only enhance the collagen production but by doing this, it also improves hair growth.

Multi Shampoo contains:

  • Capibiome that rebalances the scalp and has a soothing and cooling effect on the skin.
  • Hydrolyzed wheat protein, a natural protein with amino acids, which comes from wheat. Revives the hair and makes it softer.
  • Peptides that improve the hair structure making your hair appear thicker, fuller and healthier.
  • Capiguard, an active ingredient, which protects your hair and hair colour – both natural hair colour and colour-treated hair – against pollution and UVA rays among other things.
Vegan and dermatologically tested and without SLS & SLES, this shampoo also has both UVA and pollution protection that protect your hair your hairs colour whether that is natural and coloured hair and it protects against sun, water, air, and pollution to name just a few. Despite all this goodness, this Multi Shampoo has the most wonderful fresh scent of flowers, green leaves with a twist of mint.

On the hair, this shampoo doesn’t lather as much as others I’ve tried, but it does an incredible job at giving your hair that clean, freshly washed feeling and all without leaving your hair feeling heavy, greasy, lank or in need of moisture.

A hair mask is something I try to use weekly on my hair, this mask from Ecooking  (£23) is described as being a multi-functional offering because it works as both a mask and a conditioner.
ECooking Hair Care Collection
ECooking Hair Care Collection
From the hair masks that I use, I want something that nourish and protect my hair without leaving it feeling greasy. I find that because I have combination hair, too much conditioner or too heavy a mask really doesn’t do my hair any favours, it just leaves my head feeling like an oil slick and I want to start all over again with washing my hair. Not so with this mask.

This Hair Mask is rich in the ingredients it uses to protect, moisturise, and nourish and those ingredients are:
  • Organic coconut oil that protects hair and keeps hair moisturised.
  • Natural mango butter that reduces breakage and hair loss by strengthening the hair follicles. Also helps grow a stronger and healthier hair.
  • Natural red alga that provides the surface of the hair with a protective layer that protects hair from UV rays, pollution, and mechanical and chemical stress. It also helps to repair and smooth the cuticle if it’s damaged.
  • Natural crambe oil, provides hair with shine, improves hair elasticity, and strengthens the hair fibres.
  • Natural foxtail amaranth gives the hair strand volume, straightens hair, reduces friction, and makes hair tangle less.
  • Natural Aloe vera nourishes and moisturises hair as well as the scalp.
  • Hydrolysed wheat protein which is contains amino acids that revive and soften hair.
  • Provitamin B5 that retains and preserves moisture.
Furthermore, that red alga also protects your hair from the ’stress’ it experiences during dyeing or towel drying, something to be mindful of when we want that perfect 'do'.  It is worth noting that this mask also has the wonderful fresh scent of flowers with a hint of citrus, nothing too overpowering but enough to let you know it is there.  After using, it leaves my hair soft and smooth to the touch, there are no tangles, minimal frizz and it makes styling my hair a delight.

If you are familiar with Ecooking then you will know that their products are Vegan, dermatologically tested, and without SLS & SLES.

Monpure Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum

Did you know that our scalps age in the same way as the skin on our faces? Admittedly I’d never given it any thought until I started to take scalp care really seriously, but an ageing scalp can lead to dull and thinning hair along with other problems such as an increase of shedding which in turn can lead to hair loss. But that isn’t all! When we experience changes to the weather, go through a monthly period cycle or have an illness, as with the skin on your face, which might become irritated, dry and even irritated, so can your scalp and it’s something to think about when choosing your hair care products.
Monpure Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum
I mentioned the importance of caring for your scalp with the Monpure Clarifying Scalp Scrub and how it should be as important as any other part of your body. Alongside the scalp scrub, I’ve been using the Monpure Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum which is simply delightful.

The Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum is described as being an intense, anti-inflammatory solution for quenching very dry, irritated scalp-skin, as well as soothing rough patches. It can also help to calm the symptoms of problems such as redness, acne, eczema, sun damage and for me, most importantly general stress on the scalp, an issue which plagues me from time to time.

This serum using a whole host of ingredients which have been chosen specifically for the properties and they include:
  • Allantoin - known for its healing properties, this is an extract which is used to both calm irritation and promote skin cell renewal.
  • Pro Vitamin B5 - this is an ingredient you hear a lot about with hair care and it is said to be a wonder solution for those with a dry and flaky scalp, as it works like a sponge to rapidly absorb moisture and help lock it in. It is also used to treat wounds and irritation which in turn encourages skin cell regeneration so your scalp is left fortified and soothed.
  • Witch Hazel - used regularly in skincare, so why not in hair care?! We all know witch Hazel as being a natural toner and that it has anti-inflammatory properties, so it is ideal for treating irritated scalps.
Alongside these ingredients you will also find the scalp-quenching ingredients such as aloe vera and vitamin E which together are known for their calming and soothing properties.
Monpure Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum
Monpure Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum
The serum itself isn’t overly thick when being used and it’s important that it isn’t overly greasy too because it is designed to be applied to clean and either dried or towel-dried scalps. I’ve found the best way to apply it is to part my hairline into sections and then using the dropper, I am able to ensure I cover the parts of my scalp that I feel most need it. Once the serum is on the scalp, the advice is to simply massage it in and then leave it to work it’s magic and not to rinse it out and you can use it daily if you feel your scalp needs it. When I had a flare up of my scalp being irritated, I used it once a day until I felt my scalp was much calmer and now I use it at least once a week.

Priced at £60 right here, it is on the expensive side, but it is an incredible product and has been an absolute lifeline for me!

Monpure London Clarifying Scalp Scrub

A healthy scalp not only supports the production of healthy hair but it also contributes to the hairs natural growth and retention. Scalp care for me is a subject I’ve talked about a lot on this blog, I’ve tried a lot of products and some have worked better than others and then Monpure London kindly sent me some products and try and well, it’s a whole new ball game.
Monpure London Clarifying Scalp Scrub
Today I am sharing the Clarifying Scalp Scrub (£48). I’ve tried a fair few scalp scrubs over the past 2 years and this is one of the best I’ve used!

Oxidative stress is said to be a key aggressor when it comes to exacerbated hair loss and there are some reports which suggest that this is also prevalent in many skin conditions. Oxidative stress that occurs from an unhealthy scalp can negatively impact pre-emergent hair strands which in turn plays a bigger role in premature hair loss.

Monpure ask the question "When was the last time you gave your scalp a good going-over?" and it really is something to think about, we all exfoliate arms, legs, face and so on but do we do the same to our scalp?  As with the skin on your face, your scalp has its fair share of dirt and debris as it is uncovered as you wander around polluted streets, so a product such as this Clarifying Scalp Scrub can quickly become your best friend.
Monpure London Clarifying Scalp Scrub
My scalp is fine 75% of the time, it kicks off when I am feeling run down or I am stressed. It starts at the back of my scalp with an itch and the before I know it, my entire scalp is irritated and in need of calming.  So, I always start with a gentle scrub on my scalp to remove any loose and dry skin that needs to be removed.

So how does this scrub work?  The Clarifying Scalp Scrub is designed to slough away flaky dead skin and at the same time, it not only helps to alleviate those symptoms of dandruff and psoriasis.  As it exfoliates away dead skin and debris that cause irritation, it does so using  biodegradable jojoba beads alongside other ingredients which include:
  • Argan Oil- This popular hair care ingredient is packed with essential fatty acids and vitamin E to boost elasticity and shine and because it is a light oil, it doesn’t leave it feeling greasy or heavy.
  • Jojoba Beads - Jojoba which is pronounced “hohoba, are used to gently buff away dead skin cells and product build-up on the scalp.
  • Shea Butter - is renowned for its healing properties making it perfect for alleviating scalp discomfort.
  • Stearic Acid - This plant extract is a particularly popular ingredient in cleansers, as it’s known for its ability to bind oil and water molecules, lifting away excess grease and dirt.
This is a scrub that you know is working when it is used.  It isn't overly abrasive but you can feel those Jojoba beads working against the scalp to remove everything in its path that doesn't need to be there.  The scrub itself has a really lovely relaxing scent of sweet orange and rosemary which together are just delightful without being overpowering. After using this scrub for the very first time, my scalp had gone from being itchy and irritated, to soothed, it didn't fix the problem immediately and it never claimed that it would, but there was notably less flakes of irritated scalp on my clothing, I didn't feel the urge to scratch any itching and with the follow up product Hydrate and Sooth Scalp Serum, which will appear in a separate post, the change in my scalp was quite something, obviously for the better.

This scrub is priced at £48 with Monpure here and they have some great articles on their site about the importance of scalp care which really make you think!

Ultrasun UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50

Leading Swiss Professional Sun Care brand Ultrasun has launched a brand new product to its collection, meet the UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50. Ultrasun is a brand I am fairly new too and  I attended a Zoom masterclass featuring this launch back in March and I have been using it ever since.  I am sure like me, you will love it.
Ultrasun launches UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50
I am the first to admit that whilst I wear an SPF every single day, I am really picky about what products I will use and most of the time it comes down to how the formula feels on my skin, particularly my face, upon which I don't think thick gloopy sun cream that feels greasy and tacky when applied.  That said, the importance of wearing sun protection is right up there high on the list of an every day must wear product, even whilst I am working from home.

From Ultrasun we have a mist which delivers very high UVA and UVB protection in what is described as being an incredible lightweight, easy, non-greasy, quick-drying transparent mist.  This mist is gentle enough for the most sensitive of skin and it contains the antioxidant complex InfraGuard®. This powerful antioxidant complex which contains sunflower shoots known to inhibit light induced skin ageing also protect the skin from harmful UVA, UVB, blue light and infrared rays
Ultrasun launches UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50
This transparent, ultra-absorbent mist can be worn on top of, or beneath make-up and it is ideal for using as a top-up throughout the day to make sure that your skin is always protected.  But not just your skin, the selling point for me with this mist is that you can also use it to protect your scalp, part of the body, like the ears, that most people forget to protect.

As mentioned, the mist is ultra-light and when sprayed on the scalp, it doesn't make the hair greasy and there is no white residue left behind like you often find with a dry shampoo, when I use this on my scalp, particularly if my hair has a parting on show and then on my hairline. When using, I hold the can at arms length and then lightly spray and wait for a few seconds before I finish styling my hair.
Ultrasun launches UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50
When using on the face, this for me is the last part of my routine and again, following the instructions on the can,  you are told to shake the can well before using and then holding it roughly 15cm from your face, spray in a horizontal fashion evenly, avoiding the eyes and mouth.

This Ultrasun UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50 is the perfect size for slotting into your handbag and is easy to use on the go, so you can top up your sun care as and when you feel it is appropriate to do so.  It is also vegan, Halal and cruelty-free.

Ultrasun UV Face & Scalp Mist SPF50 (75ml) launched on May 1st and it is priced at £18. Available from qvcuk.com, Marks & Spencer*, BeautyBay*, and Ultrasun.com

CENTRED. En-Root Scalp Treatment

Scalp care is a topic you will see mention on my blog regularly, it’s an important subject to talk about, more so when my own gives so much insight as to how I am feeling. If I am stressed or feeling run down, my scalp becomes dry and irritated, with that I need products which soothe and nourish.
CENTRED. En-Root Scalp Treatment
From Centred, I was kindly sent the En-Root Scalp Treatment (£36) to test and try. Centred is the brainchild of Laura Tudor, who after ten years of working in the fast-paced fashion industry, felt exhausted, strung out, overtired and overwhelmed, but more importantly the toll of her high-stress career was impacting her physical health leading to her hair beginning to fall out. So, with the help of her husband and hair stylist, Laura set out on a journey to learn about what she could do to ‘undo’ the effects without compromise – for her, this meant natural, vegan, cruelty-free treatments to not only halt the hair loss but to stimulate growth and preserve her hair’s health and resilience. It was here that CENTRED. was born

Described as being a brand which is a concise and considered collection of super-charged, plant-powered hair and scalp heroes to cherish your lengths while respecting your scalp’s equilibrium. At the centre of the brand, it’s hero product is the En-Root Scalp Treatment.

This treatment has been designed to harness potent botanical extracts which work to stimulate growth while at the same time encouraging natural flora and fauna to thrive – this in turn creates a happy and healthy environment for follicles to flourish to give longer, stronger hair.

I love that this has been described as being a ‘facial for your scalp’, and it is an oil-based blend of a whole host of amazing ingredients which includes peppermint and rosemary with jojoba, hemp seed, tea tree oils and salicylic acid and together, they work to gently remove build-up, flakes and other debris from your roots and scalp but at the same time they help to stimulate blood flow, soothing irritation.
CENTRED. En-Root Scalp Treatment
CENTRED. En-Root Scalp Treatment
What this treatment also aims to do is to rebalance your scalp and because the clever oil-to-cream formulaic easy to rinse away with stripping your scalp and leaving it feeling irritated. To use, the directions are to apply it to a dry scalp section by section using the nozzle, then massage and leave to work it’s magic for 20 minutes to 2 hours before rinsing with water.

Designed to be used once a week, the formula – made with 84.5% plant-based ingredients – is cruelty-free and the proud owner of a Vegan Society badge of approval. I can’t rave about this scalp treatment enough, especially as someone who does struggle with an irritated scalp, more recently than I have done for a while because of stress and feeling run down.

This En-Root Scalp Treatment from Centred is definitely at the luxury end of the market and is priced at £36 here* but it is worth the investment.

The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Scalp Treatment

I am a huge fan of The Inkey List as a brand and have featured them a few times on my blog with the Salicylic Cleanser being one of my favourites from the brand. If you are not aware of the brand, the Inkey List has a very simple aim to break through all of the beauty jargon that we often have to Google to find a definition of and to deliver a straightforward take on the skin care’s most-wanted ingredients such as Retinols, Salicylic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid. As soon as I heard there was to be a hair care range, I quickly made my order.
The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Scalp Treatment
The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Scalp Treatment
My scalp is definitely a tell-tale sign of when I am feeling stressed or run down, it starts to itch and becomes really dry in two spots - the back of my neck and just above my left ear. Having ruled out most ingredients, products and dietary concerns, a specialist simply said it is stress or illness which causes it as well as having greasy roots.  So, I always ensure I used a scalp treatment at least once a week as well as  hair mask to try and do the best I can to keep the dryness to a minimum. What caught my attention with the Inkey List Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Scalp Treatment (£11.99) is that it has been designed to eliminate build-up as well as lift-inhibiting grime whilst at the same time working to gently eradicate flakes to help minimise itching.

To tackle itchiness, flakiness and excessive oil build up, The Inkey List have created this treatment which is just like a lightweight serum and it combines 3 key ingredients:
  • 2% Salicylic Acid – helps to exfoliate the scalp and restore oil levels.
  • 2.5% Fluidpure™ – reduces scalp's redness and calms irritations
  • 1% Panthenol – helps to hydrate and moisturise hair
This treatment can be used in two ways - As a pre-wash or as a boost within your shampoo and conditioner.  It comes designed with a pump dispenser, something I would normally love, but for this product I find mildly irritating and am glad to see on Cult Beauty that the packaging has seemingly changed to make it easier to use.  The pump dispenses far too much product no matter how lightly you press it and I always end up with too much to use.

Shaking the bottle before use, if using a pre-shampoo treatment, you need no more than 1-2 pumps into the palms of your hands, then having massaged them together, work the treatment into your scalp using your fingertips, leave it to work its magic for up to ten minutes and then wash your hair as normal. To use within your shampoo/conditioner as a booster, you need to only apply one pump and wash your hair as you would usually.  With this treatment, you need to use it once or twice a week.

On my scalp, this product works really well, though the dispenser really lets it down in my opinion, applying to the hands and then to the scalp defeats the object of it being a scalp treatment because there is no way of getting all of the product from your hands to your scalp. The serum is quite runny, so it needs to be applied directly to the scalp. That said, the dispenser looks as though it has been changed, though I still think a pipette would be a better dispensing method, but I am happy enough with its performance to purchase again.

The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Treatment can be purchased
via Cult Beauty for £11.99.

Klorane Nettle Shampoo

When I saw a tweet asking for bloggers if they wanted to try a new shampoo, specifically for those of us who have greasy roots, I quickly signed up.  Klorane Nettle Shampoo
is designed for those of us who have oily hair, and it claims to allow you to skip a day of washing due to its scalp detoxing effects.

The description given is:

"Detox your scalp with the Klorane Nettle Shampoo, a deeply cleansing formula for those prone to oiliness.

This gentle, effective treatment shampoo gives you more time between washes, working to regularise the amount of oil your scalp produces while slowing its spread throughout the hair. The star ingredient of the shampoo is scopoletine, an extract from nettle, which restores balance to the scalp.

Hypoallergenic and extremely mild, the Nettle Shampoo enhances volume and detangles for soft and bouncy hair that lasts. After sustained use, oil secretion is regularised, enabling you to wash your hair less frequently."

Well definitely worth giving it a try which I have been doing since the middle of January because I wanted to give it a decent amount of time to test rather than using it once, claiming it is brilliant, which I don't think would be very fair.

So the shampoo itself is bright green which isn't a surprise considering it contains nettle which was chosen for its content of scopoletine, which helps regulate sebum production and restore balance to the scalp. It is also hypoallergenic and extremely mild not to mention paraben free.

Klorane Nettle Shampoo

Klorane Nettle Shampoo

Klorane Nettle Shampoo

Klorane Nettle Shampoo

When using the shampoo, I found it to be quick thick in texture, meaning you don't need to use very much.  Once it comes into contact with water it immediately lathers and there is a slight scent too it, not too plant like as I was expecting, more a fresh scent which I really like.  Easy to wash out from my hair, if I am not going anywhere I tend to let my hair dry naturally, otherwise I dry with a hairdryer.  Once my hair had dried it was really soft and whilst I have natural curls, they were no challenge for my GHDs and I could style my hair without any problems.

So how did it fair?  Well I have to admit I did and still do get that one extra day between washing if I use this shampoo, so instead of washing my hair every other day, I can leave it to be washed every two days and the greasiness is just showing rather than looking as though I have poured oil all over my head.

I think this is a fantastic product and definitely one which will remain in my bathroom for some time to come.  It is currently on offer on Escentual for £4.50 and well worth giving it a try.

Have you tried this shampoo?
