I absolutely love my beauty gadgets and over the past few years, since being introduced to the CurrentBody LED Mask, I've become a bit of an obsessive with the mask. Then incomes the new launch of the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask Series 2, I was not only thrilled but intrigued and excited to see how something so amazing could be improved.

As I noted previously, for many of us, the last few years have taken its toll in one way or another and I am all for using and doing anything and everything I can to sort my skin out. I caught Covid, I have been left with long-Covid, made up of fatigue, very little sense of taste and smell and one of the biggest changes was to my skin - where it used to just be an issue of combination/oily it is now really dry and often bright red and angry, none of which is a reaction to any skincare I use because after many years of using a lot, the only ingredient my skin cannot tolerate is Kaolin Clay, so I stay clear of it as much as I can. The best improvement to my skin and one I have really noticed, more when I stop using the mask, is the introduction of an LED Mask.
The CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 is described as being an LED face mask with revolutionary technology for visible anti-ageing and there are some difference between the original mask and the newer one, shown below.
Taking not that there is at least four major upgrades - the redesigned head straps, the much-improved fit and shape, almost twice as many LED lights, and, possibly the biggest upgrade, the addition of deeper near-infrared light.
The Series-2 Updates
Starting with the update design of the mask, perhaps the biggest change for those who are familiar with the original mask. The Revamped Best-Fit flexible liquid silicone shape, this was tested on thousands of faces for maximum coverage and comfort including upgraded full lip and nose coverage. So now you have a mask which fits to your face, rather than a mask you fit to your face and this is also where the newer multiway head straps become important because not only are they much wider, but they also offer better support, the original mask having just the one strap.
With the original mask, I felt more comfortable sitting on the sofa or lazing on the bed to wear it, I now feel much better with Series 2 being able to wander around the mask without the worry it would fall off.
LED Lights
The most exciting change for those who really like to go into detail comes with the LED lights. The Series 2 has an incredible 236 bulbs (compared to the 132 in Series 1) and offers three clinically researched wavelengths. The first two wavelengths—633nm and near-infrared at 830nm—are found in the original mask, but the biggest change is the addition of deep near-infrared at 1072nm, a wavelength rarely seen in LED treatments.
As explained in a previous post, CurrentBody states that this device has been made to medical device directives and delivers the same clinically-proven wavelengths as professional salon machines and it uses both red light and near infra-red light.
- Red light (633nm) - stimulates the production of new collagen, calms redness and evens the skin tone
- Near infra-red (830nm) - penetrates and works beneath the skin’s surface to boost circulation, improve blood flow and boosts oxygen to the skin’s cells.
These two wavelengths work below the skin’s surface to stimulate the natural rejuvenation process, creating a complexion that is visibly glowing and noticeably healthier looking. With the inclusion of 16 deep near-infrared LEDs (1072nm) target areas where signs of ageing are more pronounced (under the eyes and around the mouth), penetrating up to 10mm into the hypodermis, stimulating collagen production deep under the skin for visible skin renewal.
The wavelength in nanometers generally indicates how deeply the light penetrates the skin. For example, blue light works on the surface at around 450nm, red light reaches a bit deeper at 650nm, and near-infrared goes even further at 800–900nm. The 1072nm depth of the Series 2 can penetrate up to 10mm, helping to stimulate collagen production more efficiently and effectively.
Review
After a few weeks of using the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask Series 2, I’m absolutely love it. As expected, it is really comfortable on the face, it needs just 10 minutes of your time a day, and my skin is already showing a noticeable improvement in so-much-as there is a lot less redness around my cheeks and chin and my skin looks less angry and annoyed. Around my eyes there is some notable difference in the lines which has begun to creep in, something I notice more than anyone else. Of course with this mask there is no downtime, it is completely painless, there is no side effects, and you only need to set aside 10 minutes to use.
When I use my LED Mask, I pair it with the CurrentBody Skin Hydrogel Face Masks or CurrentBody Skin Green Tea Serum, as directed to do with the original LED Mask and it is a great serum to use. What I am really looking forward to is seeing how my skin changes over the next few months as I continue to use the mask.
The mask is charged via a USB-C Charging cable, so you will need to charge it for a few hours when you first get it, but once it is fully charged, you can, if you wish move around freely whilst wearing it as you are not tethered to a wall and a plug socket, though the lights are really bright so it is hard to see anywhere other than in front of you. Once those 10 minutes are up, the mask will beep and turn itself off and you’re done for the day.
Another inclusion this time is that each Series 2 mask includes paperwork and a Veritace® NFC card, confirming the mask's rigorous testing and high standards.
Price
The CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask Series 2 is priced at £399—£100 more than the original, but in my opinion, it is worth every penny. However, if you use my code RACHELCB you will currently get 20% off and this code will also work on all CurrentBody products.
