L'Occitane Douceur Immortelle Uplifting Candle

Alongside the most amazing skincare, perfume and body care products, L’Occitane also has an incredible home fragrance range and it is delightful, as you can imagine it would be.

Whether you are a fan of candles, room sprays, Reed diffuser or a pillow spray then there is an incredible choice. I have the L'Occitane Douceur Immortelle Uplifting Candle to share today and I have been blown away by how beautiful it is and as a range of products, I really want to try everything L'Occitane now has to offer - which by the way is quite a lot!

I absolutely love candles, whatever the season, the weather or even my mood, I always have a candle burning - in the winter I like the comforting scent notes of cinnamon, leather, amber and notes that help you to wind down and relax, in the lighter months or most of the year, I am more fresh scents - Mint, citrus, herbs, floral and even a few earthy notes.  

The L'Occitane Douceur Immortelle Uplifting Candle is described as being the candle that sweeps you away in the hills of Provence after a long warm day, when earth releases its most exquisite scents, mixed with herbs and flowers.  For anyone who is familiar with the Immortelle skincare collection might just recognise a few of the ingredients.

Using the essential oils of immortelle, basil, cypress, eucalyptus and litsea cubeba, all of which come together in a fragrance that is deliciously aromatic, fresh and calming.  Once the candle has been lit, those notes come together and fill the entire room quickly and in doing so, that atmosphere is just incredible.

Nestled inside a subtle white jar, this candle will work alongside any decor and if, like me it is a scent you absolutely love, it can be paired with its matching reed diffuser, room spray or essential oil to really make the most of.  

This candle is priced at £20.50 and it has a burn time of around 70 hours, though this will always differ depending on how long and how often you choose to burn the candle.  When I have had this candle alight, I have found 2-3 hours is more than enough time to bring that scent to life throughout the house.

Aery Living Herbal Tea Reed Diffuser

I absolutely love fragrances, be it essential oils, room mists, pillow sprays, or more commonly at this time of year, I love to have candles burning the whole time I am home, whether I am sitting in the lounge, am in the bedroom or even the bath, there us something about the atmosphere they help create that I find incredibly relaxing. I am also a huge fan of Reed Diffusers and have one in every room of this house, even the kitchen and again, I love to smell the fresh scented aroma, usually a different one in each room, that I am greeted with. Having shared a review on the most wonderful candles from Aery Living, today I am sharing one of their Reed Diffuser. 

The Reed Diffuser I chose from Aery Living is called Herbal Tea and it is described as being a fragrance that will fill you will positivtea! It has a combination of the uplifting floral notes of chamomile and lavender with a twist of invigorating eucalyptus, sitting alongside those notes there is also Coriander, Thyme and Lemongrass.  I was drawn to this particular diffuser because of the Coriander and Lemongrass notes and it didnt let me down. Not only do they give this fragrance a really relaxing vibe but at the same time, the Chamomile and Lavender are present in the background and it’s just incredible and it also has one of the scent throws I have ever had from a Reed Diffuser.

It comes packaged in the most wonderfully decorative glass bottle, minimalist in design, it has some weight behind it and accompanying the bottle is 10 natural reeds which sit in the bottle to help that scent reach every corner of the room within which it resides.

It is simply one of the most delightful Reed Diffusers I have had in the kitchen for a very long time and one that has not only lasted much longer than I thought it would, but the scent is still as strong now a good 8 weeks into using it, as it was the first day I opened it. Added to that, having just redecorated my kitchen, the scent of emulsion and gloss hasn't detracted from the scent either, which is an absolute blessing.

The Aery Living Reed Diffusers are priced between £35-£38 depending on your fragrance choice and its packaging, but it is worth every single penny. I am currently hoping the Parisian Thyme Reed Diffuser comes back into stock soon, not only does it work with my decor but the fragrance notes have intrigued me so much, it is next on my list of diffusers I would like to try!

Creating a relaxing environment with Aery Living

Having spent 90% of the last 18months working from home, separating life from office hasn't been easy. It’s actually very easy to pick up your laptop and start work earlier than usual and log off later than usual, a slippery slope you don’t need to be going down when life has been hard.

I don’t need Autumn to light candles and make my living space a relaxing environment to be in, it’s something I do pretty much all year round in different ways with different products. Aery Living is a brand who believes in wellbeing and back in 2018, they set out to create an ethical and responsible brand that focused on sustainability before profitability. 

Having become inspired by the multi-sensory aspect of creating fragranced products. Through trial, error, heartache, and joy over the course of the last few years Aery Living have now perfected their craft and created their very own unique fragrances, some of which I have been fortunate to try and am now sharing with you today.

We believe in creating rituals that are personal to us and contribute to our mood and wellbeing. Sometimes it is simply the acknowledgement of needing some time out, creating the space and setting the scene with fragrance that will trigger the senses.

I choose my fragrances, be that perfume, Reed diffuser, room spray, candles, essential oils and even wax melts depending on my mood or the scene I want to create. If I am wanting to relax and wind down, then I’m looking for Lavender and Chamomile or if I am wanting to change my mood and want something uplifting then I’m looking for the more citrusy scented products. 

From Aery Living I chose three products to try and get to know, two candles and a Reed diffuser, the latter will feature on my blog in its own post. When it comes to candles, again, I always have one burning in whichever room I happen to be in. The two scents I chose from Aery Living are ones which can be paired together to create a unique scent or they can be used on their own, either setting is just beautiful.

The first candle is called Eternal Optimist and it is one of the strongest scented candles I have tried in a very long time.  I chose it because it has notes of Green Leaf, Neroli Blossom and Jasmin, all of which as notes I adore in fragrances that I wear most often. In this candle those notes are paired with Magnolia and Lily as well as having the base notes of amber, Sandalwood and Warm Musk.

This is a candle which works in any room - the lounge, the office, the bedroom or even the bathroom. It has a 45 hour burn time and is made from 100% plant based wax and it pairs well with Positive energy as an ultimate mood-boosting hero, which takes me on to my second candle.

I loved the sound of the Positive Energy Candle from its description which described this candle as being a mix of carefully selected essential oils and perfumes. Uplifting grapefruit fills your home with punchy fresh and juicy notes.

Within this candle you have notes of Lemon and Vetiver which are the scents you can detect as soon as the candle is removed from its packaging and then once alight as it settles you get further notes of Grapefruit and then the peppermint which comes through the middle and is said to help stimulate focus making these great home office additions, get some creativity flowing! Then finally with the base notes of both Amber and Violet Leaf which gives an earthy note to the fragrance, almost preventing it from becoming too fruity.

These candles have been some of the best I have ever used, their scents simply incredible and ones which last hours after the wick has been extinguished. Whether used alone or together, I would quite happily make my way through the entire catalogue of fragrances. Each candle is 200g and priced at £26 and they would make the most wonderful gift.

Arran After The Rain Collection

Like most people, I absolutely love a good downpour, but more than that, it is the smell afterwards. Known as Petrichor, that smell is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil and it is one of the best smells there is. Why am I talking about the weather again? Well Arran have the most amazing After The Rain Collection, from which I was kindly gifted a few pieces and I can't even tell you how fabulous it is!

The description which comes with this collection is one which caught my attention and if you are familiar with the brand, you will be aware as to how amazing they are.

So, within the collection I was kindly sent over, I have the home fragrance collection of the Reed Diffuser and the Room Spray.  Both products, as you can see, come expertly packaged and if you know of someone who loves a gift which has that luxurious feeling, then consider this an option because both products are wonderfully and very safely packaged.  

The running scent through the After the Rain collection is one which is described as being warm and inviting, with its mixture of floral and citrus notes.

I was really keen to try the Room Spray, they are products that I use, usually after I have cleaned and scrubbed the surfaces and hoovered, there is something about a mixture of cleaning products hanging in the air which irritates me, so I always try to mask the smell.

The Room Spray comes packaged in a see-through glass bottle, which I really like because I can see how much I have used.  It opens with the scent notes of blend of rose petals, musk and floral citrus combined with precious wood and what this does give, is exactly as the description reads above. It is warm, it is inviting and the scent lingers in the air for quite some time after it has been spritzed. The Room Spray is priced at £18.

 

The Reed Diffuser, which sits on my shelf is the first thing that you can smell as the door opens, the mixture of rose, sandalwood and lime permeate the air and its so lovely and refreshing and it is strong enough that you notice it, but not overpowering that it is over-dominating.

The Reed diffuser itself comes packaged in a clear see-through glass bottle, similar to the Room Spray above, and it is accompanied by neutral coloured reed sticks. It is priced at just £30 and I have been using mine for almost 9 weeks now and that opening fragrance is just as welcoming now, as it is during those first few hours of being opened and put in place.

Why use wax melts in your home

Using wax melts is a fun way of fragrance your home, a great way of avoiding the use of household chemicals. Wax melt is made from the same material as a candle. 

The method of using both is very different from each other. A scented candle is required to be burnt to release its aromas while a wax melt is heated. Most scented candles contain paraffin which can be harmful to your health. It can also cause discoloration to your walls and curtains. Using soy wax melts contains no paraffin and you will get cleaner fresher aromas.

Soy wax melts

Soy wax melts are made from soy-bean oils, they are fragrance with essential oils. Soy wax melts have a lower melting point than normal wax, be sure to store it in a cool dry place to preserve its fragrance and prevent it from melting. People that often react to paraffin within normal wax melts, using soy wax melts are a great alternative.

How to use wax melts

Wax melts are required to be heated, this can be achieved with an electric wax melt burner or an oil burner. Using an oil burner requires a tea light, the heat fro the tea light will melt the wax. Some people might be restricted using this method in the presence of children. An electric wax melt burner requires no open flame to melt the wax. A heated plate is heated, and you can melt your wax by a switch of a button.

Once there are no more aromas coming from the melted wax you will need to dispose of the old wax and replace it with a new one. Or you can simply add essential oils to your old wax melts.

Be creative with wax melts

There are hundreds of different scented wax melts to choose from, you can mix different aromas to your choice to create your own unique aroma. It is also very easy to create your own. You melt some old candles until liquid in a pan, and add you're essential oils. Place the liquid wax melts into a muffin tray, wait 24 hours for the wax melts to cool down.

Which wax melts to choose from

Some cheap wax melts are scented with chemicals, be sure to go for the essential oils used as a fragrance. For the best quality aromas go for soy wax melts.

Christmas with Heyland & Whittle

The house has been cleaned to within an inch of its life, I have de-junked and cleared out things that should have been cleaned out years ago, the Christmas decorations have been up a few weeks, the tree has survived the cats, there are presents under the tree and all of the food is bought ready. 

The last thing I do is to ensure the house smells like Christmas and this year, it is smelling pretty amazing thanks to Heyland and Whittle.

I absolutely love candles and have one burning the entire time I am at home. I tend to change the fragrance with the weather and the seasons but at Christmas Time, I like scents that define Christmas to me.

Earl Grey (£25) is one of those fragrances that could be used at any time of the year, it is bold, it is citrusy and if you are a fan of Earl Grey tea, then that scent has been transported into this candle and it smells as good as a freshly brewed cup. Made from a blend of sustainable soy wax which burns very evenly down the glass, it has a burn time of around 40 hours.  It smells absolutely incredible before it has even been lit and the fragrance very quickly comes to life and filters throughout the house.

As mentioned, you can choose a Reed Diffuser to match the fragrance of your candle should you wish.  One of my favourite candle fragrances from Heyland & Whittle is Clementine and Prosecco (£35), which is the exact candle burning as I write this post.  To intensify that scent, we have the Reed Diffuser.

With its cork stopper and rattan reeds, the fragrance comes to life really quickly.  What I like about Reed Diffusers is the ease of using them.  Once the reeds are set up in the oil, you simply turn them upside down every week to ensure that fragrance remains strong.  These products tend to last for up to 4 months before you need to refill the oil and replace the reeds.

When it comes to soaps, I like something that is a lot more exciting than shop bought supermarket soap.  Heyland & Whittle have some incredible sounding soaps and right now in my bathroom right now is Queen of the Nile (£6).

This soap is one that is seriously rich and creamy whilst at the same time being very fragrant. This soap which is free from parabens and sulphates is made with goat's milk and cocoa butter with essential oils - patchouli, vetivert, ylang-ylang and sweet orange. Luxurious and moisturising, this soap suits dry skin types.

Finally within my little stash is the Clementine and Prosecco Room Sachet. Currently hanging on my Christmas Tree, this Room Sachet smells absolutely incredible.

Scented exactly the same as the Reed Diffuser and this sachet is just as potent. Whenever I walk past the tree, it is the first scent I get and they are ideal for hanging on wardrobes, on doorknobs and even in cars.

La Montana - Scented Candles Inspired by Spain

I am yet to meet someone who isn't a fan of candles, I personally am a huge fan and can never have too many. Whenever I am at home, there is always one burning in whichever room I tend to be in.

I was recently introduced to La Montana fragranced candles**, a brand that has been inspired by life in a Spain Village. Founders Cass and Jonathan Hall decided to leave London life behind back in 2011 and move to move to a Valencian mountainside where they became inspired enough to create their own home fragrance range that captured the beautiful surroundings and the new smells of the area.

I was very kindly sent two candles from the range and I was blown away by the delicious scents which hit me as soon as I opened the box.  I also really love the candles packaging, all of which have a vintage 1930s travel poster design printed on both the labels on the candle and then onto packaging. 

First Light which is La Montanas signature fragrance and is described as being 

"A unique, intoxicating blend of wild, aromatic mountain herbs: fennel, bergamot, rosemary, mountain pepper, and rockrose" Now for me, this literally brings about the sense of sunshine and mountains and what it would be like to breathe in the morning air. 

Once alight, that scent becomes more intense as it filters through the house and the entire time the candle is burning, that scent remains strong.

The second candle is called Alfredo's Café and it is the latest scent from La Montana and it is described as being 

"An unusual, rich, comforting blend of the best aromas of our village square – coffee, brandy, and black tobacco, laced with leather and incense from the church" 

The scent to me, is the kind of scent you get whilst sitting outside a cafe on holiday as all the scents mix together. It is quite a warm and comforting scent and one which is ideal for both men and women. 

Again once it is alight, the fragrance really comes to life and for me the scent of coffee is the most dominant and it is such a wonderful fresh scent.

Flamingo Candles Lemon and Lime Mojito

Flamingo candles is a brand I have seen on many blogs, so when I got the chance to try out my own candle, I was every bit as excited because I am candle obsessed, even as I sit and type this, my Flamingo candle is burning away. If you haven't heard of the brand, Flamingo Candles are handmade candles which use soybeans and natural cotton wicks, they contain no no petroleum, paraffin or beeswax products and more information about the brand can be found HERE.

The candle I was kindly sent is Lemon and Lime Mojito and it smells exactly as the name would suggest and is described as follows:

"Fruity and exotic Lemon & Lime Mojito is a fruity aroma incorporating notes of freshly squeezed juicy lemons combined with notes of warm orchids, infused with fresh lime with added notes of cool aldehydes, mandarin and grapefruit".

Once the lid has been removed there is a sudden citrusy scent which captures your senses and once alight, that scent is magnified and quickly spreads throughout the entire house. I am a huge fan of candles which have a big scent and this one is definitely one of those, it is fresh, zesty and is perfect for those Sunday afternoons once everything has been cleaned, scrubbed and polish to sit back and relax too with a cuppa whilst browsing blogs or reading the paper. 

Flamingo Candles' Classic Jar Candles cost just £12 each and you can find them on the Flamingo Candle website, Amazon and Asos to name a few. They also offer upto 50 hours of burning time which I think is really impressive for a candle of this size. Next on my list of Flamingo Candles to try is
Oriental Lotus & Rose Otto Scent Melt and the Coconut Lemongrass Scent Melt to see if they are as good or better than similar products out there!
