How to celebrate ‘Galentine’s Day’ in style

Sure, you’ve heard of Valentine’s Day. You might make special plans each year, from date night with a partner to sending hopeful Valentine’s Day cards to crushes. But have you been missing out on Galentine’s Day?
How to celebrate ‘Galentine’s Day’ in style

It officially falls on February 13th, the day before the big one, and it’s a great way to honour your best female friendships. Galentine’s Day came about thanks to Amy Poehler’s character in the TV series Parks and Recreation and has since taken off among gals across the world, regardless of relationship status!

Whether this is your first year celebrating or you’re hunting fresh ideas, here are five fun options to get your group chat going.

Sisters’ staycation
Flight prices are going to ‘continue to rise’, according to the Jet2 boss. So if an indulgent trip abroad is beyond your gang’s means, why not holiday together closer to home?

You could book a cottage somewhere and enjoy the British countryside away from work, kids and irritating partners. Or maybe a city-centre apartment is more your group’s vibe.

At the end of the day, location shouldn’t matter too much; being together is what’s important on Galentine’s.

Dinner and drinks
Few activities allow you to properly catch up quite like a night on the town. You could book a meal to settle everyone’s stomachs before moving onto a few bars. Eat, drink and chat, then dance the night away! Square Meal is perfect for finding restaurants, bars and even venues for hire.

Alternatively, why not start early with a bottomless brunch? Or keep things civilised with an alcohol-free event, like coffee or hot cocoa and cake.

Gals’ night in
Of course, there’s no obligation to go out for Galentine’s Day. You could have just as much fun by staying in, especially since it falls on a Monday this year!

You might host a dinner party if you back your skills in the kitchen or keep things simple with a takeaway instead. Once everyone’s fed, move on to high-energy games or a nostalgic movie night.

Pampering
If your gang doesn’t get much opportunity for self-care in everyday life, then a day of pampering could be the answer. Head to your nearest spa or book in for some beauty appointments - not that you need any!

If those options aren’t your style, perhaps some retail therapy will do the trick. Take your time, try new outfits together and offer plenty of positive encouragement!

A healthy challenge
For a completely different approach, your team could take on a physical challenge of some sort. That might mean hiking a nearby mountain, skydiving or just trying a new gym class.

Whatever the case, you’ll feel even better for coming through it together – and more motivated to start!

Could any of these ideas suit your squad this Galentine’s Day?

The Korean Beauty Trends You Need To Jump on Board With

South Korea has always enjoyed a pretty buoyant beauty industry. In 2023, the market for personal care and beauty products was worth more than £10.5 billion. However, it’s only in the past decade or so that the K-Beauty phenomenon has broken the borders of the Korean Peninsula and inspired trends in the West and elsewhere. Nowadays, you’ll find many Korean cosmetics sitting alongside familiar brands online and in your favourite stores. Wondering which K-Beauty trends you should be following? We’ve got you covered.

The Korean Beauty Trends You Need To Jump on Board With

Don’t Be Afraid of Face Oils
If you’ve always wanted to incorporate face oils into your routine but were worried about acne-prone skin reacting to them, K-Beauty has the solution. With Korean beauty products, there’s a key focus on all-natural ingredients, with most face oils derived from plants. When delicately applied, they'll nourish your skin, leaving it hydrated and looking smoother. Not ready to brave the waters of face oils just yet? Korean brand Beauty of Joseon offers some incredibly effective moisturising gels that are perfect for oily skin.

Introducing Filter Creams
Feel like a fraud every time you reach for those filter effects after taking a selfie? If you want to be a little more authentic with your appearance, there’s always filter cream. A staple K-Beauty trend, this stuff does exactly what it says on the tin. Once used, your skin will be glowing, looking as though you’ve reached for your go-filter on a smartphone screen. Need more convincing? Far from being a heavy concealer, it’s actually a moisturiser that will nourish the skin. The fact that unsightly lines and pores are blurred is just a benefit.

Don’t Reach for Those Tweezers Just Yet
You probably spend far too much time perfecting your eyebrows. Whether you’re someone who favours barely-there eyebrows or have embraced the power brow, there’s a fair amount of maintenance involved to keep them looking their best. However, the Koreans like to do things a little differently. Slightly feathered brows with separated strands is the ideal here. What’s more, it’s an easy look to pull off.

Rethink Your Beauty Tools
Your cosmetic case is probably bursting at the seams with applicators and accessories you barely use. However, there’s one beauty tool worth adding to your repertoire. In Korea, spatulas are a staple. They’re perfect for applying thin layers of foundation, making them a must if you’re someone who struggles to achieve an even base. Furthermore, unlike pads and brushes, these trusty tools won’t soak up any of your products as you use them.

Make Life Simple with Multipurpose Products
Tired of spending a small fortune on skincare products? Perhaps you’re simply looking to cut down on the amount of time you’re spending in front of the vanity mirror. Once again, the K-Beauty phenomenon has the answer. In Korea, there’s a growing trend for simplification. As well as doing away with needless steps, K-Beauty skincare puts a focus on incorporating multipurpose products. When choosing things like toners and moisturisers, look for products that combine key active ingredients. As well as saving you precious time every day, your bank balance will thank you.

Making Ethical Choices in Personal Care

Personal care products we choose each day play an essential part of modern life, yet did you know their effect extends far beyond our bathroom sinks? From selecting shampoo to moisturisers, every decision has the ability to have profound ripples throughout society as a whole.

In this blog post, we are exploring the ethical choices available when purchasing personal care products, and why they matter. Furthermore, we will consider ways in which these choices align with individual values and preferences.

Assess Ethical Options
Why are ethical personal care choices worth your consideration? Look beyond immediate personal benefits - think about their possible impactful effects both on yourself and in wider society!

Personal care products touch all parts of our daily lives from morning showers to bedtime skincare rituals - yet some companies engage in practices which could compromise human health, the environment or animals with lasting ramifications for society as we know it.

Impact of Unethical Practices on Society
Unethical practices within the personal care industry go well beyond laboratories and production facilities - they pose serious obstacles that demand our collective consideration and action.

Animal Testing: Ethical and Scientific Considerations
  • Cruelty on Innocent Lives: Animal testing raises ethical concerns due to its cruelty towards innocent lives, which often result in injury for those subjected to tests, rendering this option irrelevant and irredeemable as something worthy of consideration.
  • Scientific Validity Challenged: Animal testing has become more controversial as an approach to research; no longer representing sound scientific practices.
Harmful Ingredients: Risks to Health and the Environment
  • Health Implications: Many personal care products contain chemicals which could potentially cause skin irritations and allergies as well as more serious health concerns for consumers, posing risks to all parties involved with its supply.
  • Environmental Effect: Chemical pollutants have widespread environmental repercussions that are detrimental to our world, contributing to pollution and ecosystem devastation.

Unsustainable Sourcing: Environmental Degradation and Social Disruption
  • Reducing Natural Resources: Unsustainable practices lead to the depletion of vital natural resources, leading to further environmental degradation and creating further imbalances within ecosystems.
  • Ecosystem Damage: Such actions threaten ecosystem balances and biodiversity - two serious threats that threaten environmental sustainability.
  • Social Consequences: Nuclear power plant emissions have the potential to have serious negative repercussions for local communities, endangering livelihoods and diminishing wellbeing.

Ethical Dilemmas in Consumer Trust and Reputation
  • Loss of Trust: Unethical practices within the personal care industry undermine consumer confidence by raising questions regarding product safety and quality issues as well as brand integrity issues.
  • Reputational Damage: Brands engaging in unethical conduct risk suffering irreparable reputational harm through consumer boycotts or public outrage, potentially jeopardizing both their image and brand loyalty.

Awareness of unethical practices within the personal care industry holds equal weight with consumers and industry influencers, reinforcing our shared commitment to developing more sustainable ethical options that prioritize both human health and environmental preservation.

Conscious Consumerism At Its Core
By exploring conscious consumerism, we will gain more understanding on its ethical effects on personal care practices and businesses that support sustainable values. Let's go beyond its surface manifestations to understand its profound ramifications as well as why making mindful purchases makes good business sense.

Consumer Power: Impacting Industry Values
Individual consumers hold immense power to shape industry values positively by making well-informed and ethical product selection decisions for personal care products. By choosing products aligned with values, conscious shoppers send a signal that brands prioritise sustainability, animal welfare and human wellbeing over profits maximisation.

Ethical Brands in the Spotlight
Brands like Vegetology stand as an excellent example of ethical personal care practices by employing sustainable sources, forgoing harmful chemicals, and advocating transparency. Such brands serve as models of ethical living while inspiring others to follow in its footsteps.

Establishing an Industry Shift
Companies committed to ethical practices can play an instrumental role in leading an industry shift toward more ethical personal care choices by setting an important precedent with their actions.

Advantages of Making Mindful Choices
By making ethical choices as part of your everyday care routine, not only are you contributing positively to society; you also stand to experience both immediate and long-term advantages.

Personal Well-Being
  • Healthy Skin: Ethical personal care products often include natural and nourishing ingredients which may lead to healthier, brighter looking skin.
  • Peace of Mind: Selecting products which align with your values can bring immense comfort when selecting products for safety reasons.
Environmental Stewardship
Consumers who choose products produced using eco-friendly manufacturing practices can help decrease the environmental footprint of personal care industries such as personal care.

Compassionate Consumerism
By opting for cruelty-free products, you are taking an important step against animal testing, helping create a more humane industry and contributing to animal welfare.

Industry Transformation
You as an ethical consumer have an incredible influence in raising industry-wide ethical standards with your purchasing choices, encouraging brands to adopt moral practices. Your actions help change industry culture for good!

Ethical personal care choices can bring many rewards for both yourself and the planet. By purchasing eco-friendly products you are investing both yourself and the environment - contributing towards more eco-friendly standards in industry standards.

Embracing Sustainable Ingredients
Natural ingredients in ethical personal care products are like nature's gift that keeps on giving, providing not only beneficial skincare features for our skin and planet but also making life better in general! Eco-friendly ingredients hold their own magic; not only are they good for our planet and body alike but they're good for skin too!

The Appeal of Organic Products
Naturally derived ingredients sourced from plants not only nourish your skin, but they also foster harmony between human health and environmental wellbeing, creating an alliance which advances both simultaneously.

Natural ingredients provide skincare benefits without harsh chemical compounds found in synthetic cosmetics - giving your skin an upgrade while simultaneously decreasing environmental footprint. Giving it some breathing room!

Responsible Sourcing
Ethics-minded personal care brands take ingredient sourcing seriously, prioritising environmentally responsible procurement methods so as to guarantee natural ingredients come from sources compatible with environmental preservation.

By adopting responsible sourcing practices, these brands have significantly decreased the environmental footprint associated with personal care product production and have contributed to making our planet greener and more eco-friendly. Each step plays a part in making our world greener!

Time-Tested Botanical Extracts
Sustainable ingredients often feature ancient botanical extracts like aloe vera, chamomile and green tea that have long been valued as sustainable practices and offer skincare benefits while upholding sustainable values.

Tips for Making Ethical Choices
Now that we understand the significance of ethical choices, let's dive deeper into their implementation:

Read Product Labels
When purchasing personal care products, pay careful consideration to their ingredient lists. Look for those made with natural and sustainable ingredients - ethical brands often boast of this fact on their labels!

Research Brands
Before purchasing products or services from any brand you consider, take some time to perform extensive research about them. Prioritise companies who focus on ethical practices like cruelty-free testing, sustainable sourcing practices and clear ingredient lists.

Search Ethical Certifications
Many ethical products carry certifications demonstrating they use cruelty-free or organic and sustainable ingredients, making it easier for customers to identify products which reflect their values.

Be Informed
Keep up with ethical personal care developments by staying educated yourself. Knowledge is power; more of it means better ability to make ethical choices when necessary.

Conclusion
As we reach the end of our ethical personal care journey, keep this in mind: every decision counts and affects more than just you - they impact the planet and people alike. So embrace the power of your choices; use personal care routine as a platform to bring positive change into the world!

What You Should Consider Before Purchasing a Stairlift

For individuals facing mobility challenges, navigating stairs can be a daunting task. However, with the stairlifts, the uphill battle becomes significantly easier. In this post, we will explore the essential factors to consider before investing in a stairlift. Whether you or your loved one requires assistance, this guide aims to provide valuable insights to ensure you make the right decision! Key facts in this blog were checked by Multicare, who are industry experts!
What You Should Consider Before Purchasing a Stairlift

Assess Your Needs and Staircase Configuration

Before purchasing a stairlift, it is crucial to evaluate your specific requirements and the characteristics of your staircase. Determine whether your stair components are straight or do they have curves or landings. This information will help you choose either a curved stairlift or straight stairlifts. Ensure the chosen stairlift can accommodate the weight of the user and any additional items, such as groceries or a wheelchair. Plus measure the length of your staircase accurately to determine the necessary track length for the stairlift installation.

Safety Features for Peace of Mind

When it comes to stairlifts, safety is paramount, so you must look for the following features. Ensure the stairlift comes equipped with a seatbelt for added security. Safety sensors are essential to detect any obstacles on the stairs, automatically stopping the lift if necessary. Opt for a stairlift with a swivel seat, allowing users to safely and comfortably enter and exit the lift at the top or bottom of the stairs. In case of power outages, a stairlift with a battery backup system ensures uninterrupted operation.

Comfort and Convenience

To enhance the overall user experience, consider the following comfort and convenience features. Adjustable seat height… Look for a stairlift with an adjustable seat height to suit individual preferences and provide optimal comfort. Choose a stairlift that operates quietly and smoothly to minimise any potential disturbance. Importantly, ensure the controls are user-friendly, featuring large buttons or switches that are easy to operate, particularly for individuals with limited dexterity.

Customization Options

Stairlifts can be customised to meet specific needs. For example the choices of upholstery. Select a stairlift with upholstery options so that you can match your home decor and personal style. Consider a foldable stairlift to maximise space when the lift is not in use. Some stairlifts offer add-ons such as storage compartments, remote controls, or powered swivel seats for added convenience.

Professional Installation and Maintenance

To ensure the safe and efficient operation of your stairlift, professional installation and regular maintenance is essential. Seek expert advice and consult with reputable stairlift providers who can assess your needs and provide expert guidance. Understand the installation process, including any modifications required to your staircase, and inquire about warranties or guarantees. Plus it's always good to inquire about maintenance plans and servicing options to keep your stairlift in optimal condition over time.

What You Should Consider Before Purchasing a Stairlift

Conclusion

Investing in a stairlift can significantly improve the quality of life for the elderly and disabled by granting them independence and freedom of movement within their homes. By carefully considering your needs, staircase configuration, safety features, comfort options, and customization choices, you can make an informed decision that meets your requirements. Remember to consult with professionals to ensure proper installation and ongoing maintenance, guaranteeing a reliable and long-lasting stairlift experience.

Avon Nourishing Lip Oils SPF12

Lip Oils have exploded across the beauty scene and not only do they come in from the high end brands, but also from those on the high street and today, I am sharing two from Avon.
Avon Nourishing Lip Oils SPF12
Lip Oils are often used as an alternative to lip balm and are designed to moisturise and nourish the lips. It typically contains a combination of oils, such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, or argan oil, to help hydrate and soften the lips while providing a glossy finish.

Avon offers two lips oils in the Avon True Nourishing Lip Oils priced at just £7 each (currently on offer for £5) and they are Blossom and Shimmering Petal. I really love the packaging, the clear see through tubes with copper lids clearly showing the shade of each lip oil as well as the doe foot applicator, shaped to make the addition to your lips easy.

Starting with Blossom which is a bright, vivid pink but when applied to the lips, as it is an oil, it just adds a sheer pop of colour making it perfect for use on its own or over your favourite lipstick.
Avon Nourishing Lip Oils SPF12
The formula of the lip oil is one that feels more like a gel than an oil, though it is neither greasy or tacky. In order to take care of you lips, the oil uses the likes of jojoba, avocado and coconut oil as well as vitamin E. I really like using this lip oil and it’s perfect for every day use.

The second lip oil is Shimmering Petal and it is a much lighter shade of pink but within the formula, you can see tiny flecks of silver glitter running through it.
Avon Nourishing Lip Oils SPF12
Again the formula is exactly the same as Blossom with the inclusion of jojoba, avocado and coconut oil and vitamin E and as before, on the lips that same gel like texture which isn’t sticky or tacky and despite the flecks of silver, it is delightful to wear either on its own or over a lipstick, with the flecks offering a bit of sparkle.

Both Lip Oils also offer SPF12 making them even better for your lips. On offer for just £5 they absolutely should be purchased and tried, it’s a great way to find out whether a lip oil is for you or not.
