If you received a pair of diamond earrings as a gift from the one you love this Christmas and are looking for advice on how to keep them looking beautiful then you’re in the right place. Jewellery looks best when it’s cared for, so make sure you utilise the following tips to ensure you look the best you can in your new items. Read on to find out more.

Cleaning
If you want the same perfect shimmer each time you place your jewellery on you then cleaning it is one of the most important things to do. It will remove dirt which makes the diamond as visible as possible.

However, when you do clean your diamond, you’ll want to make sure you do – or don’t do – the following. Otherwise, you run the risk of damaging your beautiful item:
  • Do not wear when using harsh chemicals
  • Do not clean diamonds with any chemicals
  • Use hot soapy water and a soft-bristled brush to clean the jewellery

Avoid wear and tear
Dirt isn’t the only thing you’ll want to protect your diamond jewellery from as wear and tear will cause significantly more damage to the piece. Items like diamond rings can cost up to £350 to be repaired, so it’s something you want to avoid. Here’s how you can protect your diamonds from wear and tear:
  • Regularly check the prongs and settings
  • Take off diamond jewellery before swimming
  • Try and avoid taking off diamond jewellery by touching the diamond itself. This is because it’s a magnet for grease and grime. Instead, touch the metal.
Storage
The final thing you need to think about is storage and protecting the item from theft. Poor storage may mean your diamond jewellery scrapes against other items or abrasive materials like wooden drawers, so carefully planning where they go is important. We also recommend purchasing a jewellery box with a soft interior for added protection.

Diamond jewellery is also something thieves look for which is why around £400 million worth of jewellery was stolen between 2018 and 2019 across the UK. To protect yourself from theft, we recommend not leaving your prized possessions in plain sight. You may also wish to take out insurance to protect your diamond jewellery from theft.

Don’t leave your diamond jewellery’s looks and safety to chance. Take these steps and ensure it’s protected for life.
