Did you know that our scalps age in the same way as the skin on our faces? Admittedly I’d never given it any thought until I started to take scalp care really seriously, but an ageing scalp can lead to dull and thinning hair along with other problems such as an increase of shedding which in turn can lead to hair loss. But that isn’t all! When we experience changes to the weather, go through a monthly period cycle or have an illness, as with the skin on your face, which might become irritated, dry and even irritated, so can your scalp and it’s something to think about when choosing your hair care products.
I mentioned the importance of caring for your scalp with the Monpure Clarifying Scalp Scrub and how it should be as important as any other part of your body. Alongside the scalp scrub, I’ve been using the Monpure Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum which is simply delightful.
The Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum is described as being an intense, anti-inflammatory solution for quenching very dry, irritated scalp-skin, as well as soothing rough patches. It can also help to calm the symptoms of problems such as redness, acne, eczema, sun damage and for me, most importantly general stress on the scalp, an issue which plagues me from time to time.
This serum using a whole host of ingredients which have been chosen specifically for the properties and they include:
- Allantoin - known for its healing properties, this is an extract which is used to both calm irritation and promote skin cell renewal.
- Pro Vitamin B5 - this is an ingredient you hear a lot about with hair care and it is said to be a wonder solution for those with a dry and flaky scalp, as it works like a sponge to rapidly absorb moisture and help lock it in. It is also used to treat wounds and irritation which in turn encourages skin cell regeneration so your scalp is left fortified and soothed.
- Witch Hazel - used regularly in skincare, so why not in hair care?! We all know witch Hazel as being a natural toner and that it has anti-inflammatory properties, so it is ideal for treating irritated scalps.
The serum itself isn’t overly thick when being used and it’s important that it isn’t overly greasy too because it is designed to be applied to clean and either dried or towel-dried scalps. I’ve found the best way to apply it is to part my hairline into sections and then using the dropper, I am able to ensure I cover the parts of my scalp that I feel most need it. Once the serum is on the scalp, the advice is to simply massage it in and then leave it to work it’s magic and not to rinse it out and you can use it daily if you feel your scalp needs it. When I had a flare up of my scalp being irritated, I used it once a day until I felt my scalp was much calmer and now I use it at least once a week.
Priced at £60 right here, it is on the expensive side, but it is an incredible product and has been an absolute lifeline for me!
