A product you have probably heard about and now see popping up across your social media feed is the The L’Oreal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Wonder Water?! A product which just launched here in the UK and one which is getting talked about a lot, but what is it, do you need it and why is it talked about?
I’m delighted to say that I’ve been using it for a while now, the second bottle is open, and can shed some light on all of this.
What is L’Oréal Paris Wonder Water?
It is a conditioning treatment which is described as being a powerful way to revolutionise your hair care routine by adding silky softness before finishing off with a reflective glass-like shine.
Wonder Water has been designed to combat frizz while maintaining a watery, weightless consistency, never making you compromise on natural movement and bounce, even when it comes to incredibly fine strands.
So what you have is a treatment which adds a silky softness to your hair and it takes just 8 seconds of your time. Instead of using silicones to create that fake smoothness, Wonder Water has instead been formulated using something called Lamellar Water Technology, not a new thing by the way, Kerastase also use it in a few of their products too.
Anyway the Lamellar Water Technology works by depositing ultra lightweight molecules onto the hair which are said to be 10x smaller than regular conditioners/masks and it is these molecules which lock in hydration to form a super glossy, silky, light reflective top coat on your hair. At the same time, these molecules also target signs of damage by smoothing the surface of your hair, filling in gaps, so if you have dry hair, this could be just the tonic.
How I use Wonder Water
A bottle with a nozzle, wet hands and a shower - admittedly, I was expecting to get annoyed with the whole concept, but I’ve stuck with it. Using in the shower, it does take a bit of time to figure out that you need to open the bottle, apply to the mid-lengths and ends as well as close nozzle and then use your 8 seconds of time to brush through. As the term water literally, in this case means water, it has pretty much the same texture, so there is the potential for waste. So I don’t do that.
I do wash my hair in the shower, but as I use Wonder Water once a week, twice at the most and not after every wash. I get out of the shower, squeeze the excess water out of my hair, apply said product to my hair, comb it through with my shampoo brush to ensure I’ve distributed it as evenly as I can and then I rinse my hair. Much less of a faff. You could also dispense some of the product into a spray bottle and apply it that way too, I’ve tried this and it also works really well.
I was worried that I would use too much or too little of this product when it first arrived, but helpfully on the bottle, there is a guide in 20ml sections to show what you should use, obviously if you feel you need more or less, that is your choice entirely.
Depending on your routine, you can also use your conditioner afterwards if you feel you need it.
Does L’Oreal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Wonder Water Work?
In short yes it does. My hair hasn’t seen the inside of a salon in well over a year now, so it is possibly not in the best condition and it definitely is in need of a trim. That said, when I’ve used Wonder Water, my hair feels as soft as silk, the tell tale flyaways are not there, my hair isn’t knotty or tangled, I can comb my hair through with my Wet Brush and not grimace at the tugging or pulling of my hair and it dries like an absolute dream. So, if it can make my absolute birds nest scarecrow hair do look soft, smooth and shiny, then it ticks the right boxes for me and ultimately, I want to see what it does for my hair when I have had that trim and professional treatment I am craving right now.
